AM: government supports waterfowl farmers in preventing the bird flu epidemic

The Hungarian State Treasury has already disbursed 2.038 billion forints in state aid to the waterfowl sector to help protect against bird flu. Thanks to the government’s support, 105 affected poultry farmers can access funds in the first round based on applications submitted in July this year. There is significant interest in the compensation, which will be received by all affected by November – Minister of Agriculture István Nagy informed MTI in a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture (AM).

The Minister emphasized that this year, agriculture, including the waterfowl sector, has faced numerous challenges. The regular appearance of the bird flu virus causes serious losses for the entire Hungarian poultry sector, so the most important task now is to mitigate epidemiological risks, increase the safety of farms and strengthen competitiveness. According to the statement, the Ministry of Agriculture has launched a support program for this purpose, in which those farmers who have agreed to suspend their production for three years – that is, not keep poultry – and not establish a new farm can receive funds. The decision is based on the fact that the high density of poultry flocks makes protection significantly more difficult – they wrote. The support specifically provides compensation for farms previously affected by the outbreak of bird flu, contributing to strengthening farmer awareness and the long-term stability of the sector – added István Nagy.
