AM: sustainable forest tourism is a value for the whole society
Forests are extremely important locations for domestic tourism, and their recreational services are a value that can be used by all Hungarian citizens and society as a whole – said State Secretary for Forests and Land Affairs Péter Zambó at the conference “Evaluation of the situation of ecotourism” in Budapest on Wednesday, according to information from the Ministry of Agriculture (AM).
According to the ministry’s announcement, Péter Zambo emphasized that forests are inseparable from our lives. They are present in all of our everyday lives, even if one is not a regular hiker. Forest ecosystem services belong to all people. Their social importance is expressed by the fact that we regard the more than two million three hundred thousand hectares of wooded areas as the most important element of Hungary’s national green wealth – emphasized the state secretary.
He explained that in Hungary, the forests that cover nearly a quarter of the country are of outstanding importance in the field of active, health-preserving recreation.
The government is committed to supporting nature walks, more than HUF 42 billion have been spent on the development programs announced since 2013 at the state forestry companies alone, while the company group provides at least HUF 4 billion annually for the maintenance and operation of the forest tourism infrastructure.
