Fake producers were screened out by Nébih during the summer seasonal inspection
The employees of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) also conducted administrative, market and place of production inspections during the target inspection of primary producers in the summer. During the two-week series of inspections, 32 primary producers were checked in Budapest and six rural settlements, in several cases visiting the production site directly. A total of 10 procedures were initiated. The experts also took action against primary producers who were not from their own cultivation and were distributing products not registered in the register.

The activities of primary producers also came into focus during the summer seasonal food chain inspection. Nébih’s specialists held administrative, market and production site inspections in Budapest and six rural towns – Győr, Mezőcsát, Miskolc, Nyíregyháza, Pécs and Szigetszentmiklós – in some cases jointly with the staff of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV). The inspectors checked, among other things, whether the sold product was included in the primary producer register, whether there was a person entitled to it on the market behind the counter, and whether the mandatory basic information was written out. The specialists also checked whether the primary producer sells a product produced on his own farm, and whether the quantity of the product to be sold is proportional to what can be produced based on the register, or to the size of the livestock. Based on what was experienced during the on-site inspection, more inspections had to be carried out at the production site. In such cases, the inspectors examined the production area, its condition, legal title to use, the produced crop and any stocks.
In the action, the activities of 32 primary producers were checked and proceedings were initiated in 10 cases due to legal violations
Some of the primary producers marketed products that were not from their own cultivation or that were not registered in the register of primary producers. By doing so, they deceived the customers, and at the same time put the law-abiding primary producers at a disadvantage. The authorities banned the affected producers from primary producer activities and fined them a total of about one million forints. In light of the results, the most common violation is still the sale of purchased products that are not recorded in the primary producer register. At the same time, the number of fake producers is also increasing, who, although they declare the product – thus “legalizing” the sale – when checking the area included in the register, it turns out that the plantation or stock cannot be found there.
The series of summer seasonal inspections lasts until August 15 across the country
Government and district offices, as well as Nébih specialists, also check festivals, restaurants in the Balaton area, summer camps, street food and beach buffets. Grilled cheeses, pesticides, external parasite products approved for cats, seasonal fruits and vegetables (such as watermelon), and live animal shipments will also be the focus of the authorities’ attention.
