Frost makes apple expensive
The average price of agricultural produce was up by 34,4 per cent in October compared to the same period in 2006. According to KSH data, the average price of plant products rose by 63,1 per cent, while that of animal products and livestock only grew by 6,1 per cent. The price of potato rose by 19,4 per cent. Fruit prices were up by 59,8 per cent on average, with apple showing an extreme figure of 112 per cent as a result of spring frost. The average price of livestock intended for slaughter dropped by 1,6 per cent, with the price of swine and cattle showing a decrease of 15 and 16,3 per cent respectively. The average price of animal products was up by 22,3 per cent.
