Application helps deliver food to those in need
he cooperation between Munch, Tesco and the Food Bank helps to reduce food waste and provide direct support to the needy. As a result of the digitized solution, more than 1,000 food packages have been received by the needy since the summer, the participants informed MTI.
The goal of the project called MunCharity is to allow shops with a smaller turnover to get involved in food rescue, where it is not worthwhile to operate traditional food rescue routes, and it is better if a social organization does not go to the store surplus every day, but the local needy receive the donations directly. The project is currently running in two Tesco express stores in Budapest.
In the tripartite cooperation, Tesco provides the food packages, Munch provides and jointly operates the platform with the Food Bank. The needy are nominated by local organizations that work together with the Food Bank. The Hungarian startup company operating the Munch food rescue application, Munch Europe Szolgáltató Kft., was founded in 2020 with the aim, among other things, of taking action against food waste. Munch is a platform through which restaurants, bakeries, shops and hotels sell unsold but high-quality food at a discount.
