Hungarians hardly consume the healthy sheep meat
The sheep population continue to grow this year. Due to the impact of the supports given to the sector the breeding mood somewhat increased – Hajduk Péter executive director of the Hungarian Sheep and Goat Breeders Association told MTI.
According to Hajduk Peter, after the prolonged decline of sheep breeding, the real boom period can be between 2014-2020, thanks to the additional support to the agricultural sector, of which the sheep sector will also receive an amount, the sheep breeders hope. “Tailwind” is needed because due to the small amounts of supports of the previous years, following the accession to the EU, the sheep population decreased by 40-60 thousand ewes each year. In the 90s the number of sheeps were around 2 million, it is only 900 thousand currently. (MTI)
