Onions are hardly sold in the neighboring markets
Falling demand and downward correction prices continue to characterize the Austrian onion market during the summer holidays, FruitVeB reported. Prices are under pressure from the abundant supply and limited export opportunities, which further worsens the market situation.
On the Austrian onion market, the supply is plentiful at the moment, especially the new crops are available in large quantities. Due to the narrowing of export opportunities, the price pressure still did not ease, which led to a further decrease in average prices.
The price of red onions decreased from the previous week’s range of 25-28 euros/100 kg to 20-23 euros/100 kg, which clearly shows the effect of the expanding supply and sluggish demand.
The current situation of the Austrian onion market poses serious challenges for producers. Due to the drop in prices and the narrowing of export opportunities, producers have found themselves in a difficult situation, and the increase in market pressure is expected to make their situation even more difficult in the near future.
