Changing price level
The Agricultural Economics Research Institute (AKI) keeps monitoring and publishing the world’s agri-food prices and trends. Their latest report reveals that at the Budapest Wholesales Market on week 31 the price of imported fruit was up 3.5 percent on average from the level of week 30. For instance peach cost 51 percent more and nectarine prices grew by 68 percent. Italian import Idared apple was sold for HUF 250/kg and Polish sour cherry was selling at HUF 280/kg. According to OECD-FAO’s long-term forecast, the world’s poultry meat production may rise 26.7 percent to 134.5 million tons by 2023 from the 2011-2013 level. European Commission data indicates that in the first 30 weeks of 2014 whole chicken’s average price was EUR 193.9 per 100kg. In Hungary broiler chicken’s live weight price was HUF 275.69/kg in the same period – down 7.5 percent from the first 30 weeks of 2013. OECD-FAO expects the price of pork to remain high until 2023, with world production growing by 14.8 percent until 2023 from the base period of 2011-2013.
