AKI: Retail purchase price of pork decreased at the beginning of the year
The producer price of slaughter pigs, the processing sales and retail purchase price of raw pork have decreased, but the producer price of poultry and the packinghouse price of eggs have barely changed – according to the summaries published on the website of the Institute of Agricultural Economics (AKI).
According to their data, the producer price of slaughter pigs decreased by almost 30 percent in the third week of the year compared to the same period in 2025. The processing sales prices of pork have also decreased predominantly, with minced pork by more than 10 percent and boneless pork legs by almost 20 percent. Retail purchase prices have developed similarly, most of them decreasing by at least 10 percent year-on-year. Feed for fattening pigs costs about the same as a year ago – they wrote.
AKI also analyzed the poultry market, and according to their summary, the producer price of broiler chickens has been almost unchanged for a year, as has the selling price of eggs from deep-litter farming at the packinghouse. Eggs from cage farming have increased in price by an average of about 3 percent in a year. The difference in egg prices is greater on wholesale markets, with an annual increase of over 10 percent in Budapest, while in rural towns there is mostly no increase in price or a decrease of a few percent – they announced.
