AI strategy: education in focus
Education will play a key role in the artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, emphasized László Palkovics, the government commissioner responsible for AI, at the presentation of the discussion paper entitled Forward, not backward! – Preparing the education system for the effects of AI. According to him, the key question is how to prepare the future generation to live in a radically different world, where AI will become everyday.
The discussion paper is intended for teachers, parents and a wider professional circle, and will also be discussed at a conference in October. Government commissioner László György highlighted that by 2030, the application of AI could affect up to 600-700 thousand jobs in Hungary. He emphasized the importance of critical thinking, the humanities and knowledge of basic concepts.
According to Zoltán Maruzsa, the topic has already appeared in domestic education, and several smart textbooks contain tasks related to AI. Deputy State Secretary László Bódis added that the strategy can be further strengthened by building on the development of digital competence and research and development capacities.
Tamás Csizmadia, an analyst at the Makronom Institute, pointed out that AI will bring about historic changes in the labor market, where the key to competitiveness will be the ability to continuously learn.
