LG uses AI songs to spread the message of optimism
LG Electronics (LG) has launched a new global brand campaign, “Radio Optimism,” which aims to strengthen human connections and spread the message of optimism through shared musical experiences. The campaign builds on LG’s Life’s Good slogan and highlights the increasing challenge of building and maintaining genuine connections in a technology-driven world.
Following last year’s successful “Optimism your feed” campaign, LG has launched a new global initiative to emphasize the importance of optimism. While last year’s campaign leveraged social media algorithms to deliver more positive content to users’ screens through a special playlist, the new initiative specifically addresses the paradox that in the digital age, while we are constantly connected, it is increasingly difficult to form deep, meaningful relationships. LG is targeting the younger audience with the aim of countering the impersonality that we often feel in the digital world of superficial interactions, likes and comments. Building on the power and universal language of music, the initiative aims to create deeper bonds between people.
The campaign will allow users to generate personalized AI songs in English in the style of music they choose and with a personalized message, and then send them to their friends and loved ones. They can choose from styles such as hip-hop, R&B, punk, reggaeton, jazz, or, true to the manufacturer’s origins, K-pop, within which they can also select the mood. The song will also receive an AI-generated cover image. The personalized songs can be added to LG’s global Radio Optimism playlist, thereby spreading the message of optimism.
The Radio Optimism campaign was inspired by the unique role of traditional radio, which is to connect through music and storytelling. The initiative turns this mindset into an interactive platform. The AI algorithms used to create the songs were trained on a pre-filtered and organized music dataset/database.
The initiative is based on a new global study by LG* that found that 68 percent of people have difficulty finding true friends, a third have had no more than one new real human connection in the past month, and 8 percent have not experienced any at all. According to the survey, nearly 9 out of 10 people believe that meaningful relationships lead to a more optimistic outlook on life.
“One of the most fundamental conditions for happiness is having deep and meaningful relationships,”
said Jean M. Twenge, a professor of psychology at San Diego State University.
“However, many people these days spend more time online than in person, and the connections we make on social media are often superficial and don’t meet our true connection needs. It’s common for people to have hundreds of followers but have no one to talk to in real life when they need support. If we consciously build more meaningful relationships with those around us, we can reverse this trend.”
“As technology advances, meaningful human connections are becoming more important. True to our brand promise of Life is Good, LG continues to promote the importance of an optimistic attitude in everyday life,” said Kim Hyo-eun, head of LG’s brand management division.
The AI-powered music can be created by those interested on the English-language website RadioOptimism.lg.com. For more details on the campaign, visit https://www.lg.com/hu/lifesgood/.
