Agrometeorology: favorable conditions for plant development

According to the analysis, our weather has become warmer and drier in the past week, which has already favored agricultural work in most places. The amount of precipitation in the past 30 days exceeds the usual values for this time by 20-60 millimeters in many places, but less than average fell in the region of the Upper Tisza and in the Szolnok area. In most places, the near-surface part of the soils has dried up a lot compared to the conditions of a week ago, but in the areas affected by heavy downpours, there are patches of water on the fields. The temperature rose suddenly after the rainy season, with maximum values above 20 degrees Celsius from Friday and 25 degrees Celsius from Saturday.

In some places, more than the optimal amount fell. The temperature is also suitable, but at the same time, due to the persistent wetness of the leaves last week, the pathogens multiplied rapidly in the dense stands. For corn and sunflowers, the rainfall was worth gold, the small plants are developing quickly, but due to the heat, strong weeding also started.

The vegetation index is almost everywhere higher than usual at this time

The value of the latest vegetation index for the beginning of May, showing the “greenness” of the surface, is higher than the long-term average across the country, except in the forests of the central mountains, where the vegetation is still lagging behind due to the cooler weather in April. In the continuation, mostly sunny, early summer weather is expected, with showers and thunderstorms possible in places. In most places, the part of the soil close to the surface dries out, the southeastern part of the country may be an exception. The temperature does not change significantly, the air usually cools between 10 and 15 degrees in the morning, and during the day it is likely to be 23-28 degrees, and the UV radiation will be very strong.
