Agrometeorology: the early development of vegetation may gain momentum again
The lower average temperature of the past week slightly restrained the premature, rapid development of vegetation, but it may gain momentum again due to the mild weather of the next few days, HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its Thursday agrometeorological analysis.

According to the analysis, the temperature dropped slightly compared to the previous period, but it was still 4-6 degrees Celsius higher than usual, between 5-8 degrees. On weakly cloudy, windless nights, frosts occurred several times, mainly in the eastern half of the country, but colder than minus 5 degrees only occurred in the frost corners.
In the last ten days, there has been less rainfall than usual across the country
The deeper layers of the soil were already saturated with moisture in December, and the upper half-meter layer also contains plenty of moisture. Despite the dry weather, the extent of inland water spots decreased only slowly in the Great Plain. The autumn crops are in relatively good condition, but the plants suffered from the permanent water coverage, especially rape, which also died in the water spots.
The rapid, premature development of the vegetation was slightly broken by the night frosts, but the sap circulation of the early echinoderms had already started in the preceding period
The buds have already popped in the northern part of the country, and in the southwest the earliest apricot varieties are already blooming, a major frost could have serious consequences. They noted: apricots are already damaged in the budding phase below minus 4 degrees Celsius, and it is still too early for frost to stop. In 2021 and 2022, for example, frosts of around minus 10 degrees occurred in the country in mid-March, they wrote.
According to the forecast, it will rain several times in the next week, but it will still be mild
The southerly wind will be accompanied by strong gusts in several directions on Thursday and Friday, and the air movement will moderate slightly from the weekend. The temperature is still above the long-term average, no night frost is expected until the middle of next week.
