Agrometeorology: the drought will be alleviated by heavy rain in the next few days
Heavy rains will ease the drought in the next week, wrote HungaroMet Zrt. in its Thursday agrometeorological analysis.

They wrote that the soil near the surface of the southwestern part of the country and with the exception of Szamosköz and Krasznaköz is already extremely dry, containing less than 30 percent of the usable moisture for plants in many places, and the middle soil layer has also lost a lot of moisture during the past week. However, layers deeper than half a meter still retain their moisture content acquired in the first half of winter, which can be a good reserve during a possible summer drought. The autumn sowings are two to three weeks earlier in their development than usual, the corn plants are blooming, the autumn cabbage rape is in the phase of seed formation. In most places, ryegrass and canola still find a sufficient amount of moisture in the soil, but for optimal development, they would need much more precipitation than before. Sunflowers and corn, which are still shallowly rooted, develop in drought conditions in most parts of the country. The sunny weather was good for the ripening of the early fruits, strawberries and cherries, but more moisture would have been needed for the growth of the grains, they wrote.
A ccording to the forecast, the next week will be more variable and rainier than before
On average, between 5 and 15 millimeters of rain may fall until Saturday morning, but much more may fall locally. On Saturday and Sunday, showers and thunderstorms are to be expected in fewer places, and then on Monday and Tuesday, precipitation is expected again in a larger area, so overall, the amount of precipitation that will fall in the next week is likely to be between 30 and 50 millimeters in a large part of the country.
