Agrometeorology: Grain crops may strengthen in mild weather
At the beginning of next week, the rising wind will bring mild air to the Carpathian Basin, which will help the autumn grain crops that have sprouted late in many places to strengthen – HungaroMet Zrt. wrote in its agrometeorological analysis on Thursday.
They wrote: over the past 10 days, 5-10 millimeters of precipitation have typically fallen in the southwest and northeast, while 10-20 millimeters have fallen in the central wide strip of the country, and the total precipitation over the past 90 days shows a surplus in most parts of the country. The soil is muddy in many places, and the one-meter layer in the upper half, southwest and in some places in the northeast is practically saturated, while in the Great Plain, only little moisture has reached the layer deeper than half a meter. The temperature was 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than usual at this time of year, around 5 degrees during the day, and in the south and southwest on some days the air warmed up to around 10 degrees, and the nights were mostly frost-free. There has been no significant frost in the soil so far during the winter, they noted. Rapeseed is well developed and in good condition thanks to the rainy but relatively mild weather typical of the first half of autumn, but the picture is not so uniform for cereals sown in October. The dry period that lasted a month until mid-November resulted in uneven germination and difficult early development in many places, which was greatly helped by the precipitation that fell in the second half of November, and then the relatively mild weather in late November and early December.
According to the forecast, the weather will remain milder than average, with more precipitation, typically with a lot of clouds, but the clouds will not be closed for days and sunshine is also expected
Less than 5 millimeters of precipitation is expected in the next week, so the autumn-winter recharge of the soils will come to a halt. Only light frosts are expected at night on less cloudy nights, while maximum temperatures will initially be between 1 and 5 degrees. Very mild air will arrive at the beginning of next week, so peak values of around 10 degrees are expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
