They wrote that with the awakening of nature, spring bloom has begun, which calls not only garden lovers, but also Hungarian beekeepers to work. Millions of flowering rapeseed, fruit trees and wild plants are pollinated by our country’s bee colonies, this process is essential for ensuring that there are enough fruits, vegetables and seeds, as well as fodder crops in agriculture in summer and autumn – they emphasized.
Hungarian beekeeping is built on centuries-old traditions, but today it faces new challenges
The unpredictability of the weather, the prevalence of various diseases and parasites affecting bee colonies, and the opacity of products of uncertain origin called honey imported into the EU all threaten the livelihood of domestic beekeepers. They noted that the spring period is particularly important, as it is then that the beekeepers’ year is decided and what will ultimately end up on consumers’ tables. “The first serious breeding season for Hungarian beekeeping begins with the rapeseed bloom. Bees work not only for us beekeepers – without their work, fruit and vegetable production would also be in danger,” said Péter Bross, president of the National Hungarian Beekeeping Association, according to the article.
OMME once again draws attention to the fact that the work of beekeepers is a common interest
Everyone can do something for bees, for example, by preferring domestic, producer honey, avoiding chemical treatment of flowering plants and planting bee-friendly plants in their gardens and balcony boxes. “Hungarian honey is a world-class product. However, in order for it to remain so, beekeepers are needed – and they need the attention, appreciation and support of society” – they say.
