Eggs have not become more expensive compared to the previous year, and can be purchased at about the same price as last year for Easter – Agroinform told MTI on Wednesday.

Based on their analysis, the average consumer price of eggs from cage farming could be between 90-95 forints, and deep-litter eggs between 100-110 forints during the holiday season. Domestic production covers approximately three-quarters of Easter demand, so imports are also needed at this time. At the European level, the center of gravity of egg production has shifted to the central and eastern parts of the continent, with Poland becoming a real superpower in the last 10 years.

There was no such increase in Hungary

Currently, 8-8.5 million laying hens produce about 2.4-2.5 billion eggs per year, but production has stabilized and modernized, more than 90 percent of the domestic stock is maintained by professional farms with more than 5,000 employees. According to the statement, MBH Bank’s agricultural and food industry analyst sees the situation of commercial egg production as stable despite the bird flu. Csaba Héjja added that profitability is not threatened by the increase in wages and energy prices, because feed prices may even decrease slightly. Although, based on the sales data, demand in Hungary is also decreasing slightly, the outlook for producers may develop favorably in the longer term – they wrote.
