According to the information, István Nagy drew attention to the fact that the International Beekeepers Congress in Istanbul is a worthy forum for our cultural ties, since Turkey is the second honey producer in the world, and Hungary is one of the leaders in the European Union. He emphasized that there are currently 1.2 million bee colonies in Hungary, playing a very important role in Hungarian ecology. The minister recalled that he made a number of proposals in Brussels that draw attention to the role and protection of bees. If there are no pollinators, then there is no world, because pollination is an extremely important thing, and we must support it – he said.
Common points must be found in the economies of the two countries
The head of the ministry also touched on the fact that Turkish-Hungarian agricultural relations have many more opportunities than we are currently taking advantage of, so cooperation must be further strengthened. Exploiting the potential in seed production, cattle imports and freshwater fish farming is extremely important to both nations. The points that are important for both countries can be found at the meeting of the joint economic committees, he said. The minister explained: the strengthening of the educational relations between the two countries should also be given priority, as the students form a bridge between the two countries. Hungarian-Turkish relations form a good basis in this process.
István Nagy emphasized that Turkey plays a decisive role in the world’s food supply, which is of particular importance during the challenges posed by the Russian-Ukrainian war and the energy crisis. For Hungary and Turkey, it is also important from a supply point of view that the armed conflict ends, because this way global food security can be guaranteed in the long term, he added. In relation to the agricultural cooperation of the parties, István Nagy underlined that it is necessary to continue working on increasing the added value of agricultural products. The head of the ministry expressed his gratitude to Turkey for supporting the organization of the World Beekeeping Exhibition in Budapest, the Ministry of Agriculture announced.
