Ministry of Agriculture: farmers can be exempted from their obligations if they suffer drought damage
Hungary is being hit by a drought on a historic scale, Hungarian farmers are helped by several previously created legal regulations in such a situation, the Ministry of Agriculture told MTI on Sunday, which also drew attention to the fact that farmers can be fully or partially exempted from obligations undertaken in grain market contracts.
In their announcement, they wrote: if the expected amount of crops was not produced in the areas specified in the farmer’s contracts for reasons beyond the farmer’s control and the farmer indicates this fact even before the harvest, or if he has an official certificate of drought damage, this may mean a full or partial exemption from the assumed obligations .
