Ministry of Agriculture: pig farmers to be in trouble

Pig farmers expect decisive action from the EU
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Agriculture (AM) on Tuesday, the minister reminded that Hungarian pig farmers, who provide more than a third of domestic meat production, and European Union industry players have to face unprecedented difficulties. In a short time, production costs, feed prices and energy costs have risen sharply. During the same period, however, transfer prices fell drastically, so dangerously “the scissors opened.” As a result, pig farming is now unprofitable for even the most efficient farms. And this situation cannot be maintained even in the short term, Nagy István added. (MTI)
