Agricultural Conference: irrigation could increase grain yield

The annual 15 – 16 million domestic cereal production can be increased to 20 million tons per year with proper irrigation – Jakab István, Vice President of the National Assembly said at a professional conference in Debrecen on Wednesday.

At the event held at the Centre for Agricultural and Applied Economic Sciences at the University of Debrecen the politician told that irrigated surface area in Hungary is under 100 thousand hectares. The water agency, operating under the supervision of the Rural Development Ministry has to deal with this issue – he added. (MTI)
