Agrarian Chamber: producers join forces to increase the competitiveness of the onion sector
The National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) aims to increase the competitiveness of the Hungarian dairy industry and to attract the attention of traders and consumers to the high quality Hungarian onions – the public body told MTI.
In Hungary, the annual average onion consumption is 8-9 kilos, and from garlic 0.8 to 0.9 kilos.
The onion yield is 65-70 thousand tons, while garlic yield is 6-8 thousand tons. The production area has dropped somewhat in recent years. Last year onions were grown on about 2,000 hectares and garlic on 915 hectares. Cultivation traditions and production conditions together define the location of the production areas. (MTI)
