Chamber of Agriculture: Hungarian watermelon will be of high quality
The watermelon harvest will begin in the southern regions of the country at the end of this week, and due to the favorable weather in recent weeks, producers expect excellent quality, which can meet the growing demand even by mid-September, the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) told MTI.
This year, watermelons are grown on about 3,500 hectares in Hungary, and about 150-160 thousand tons are expected. The average melon consumption is 12 kilograms per person per year, which could rise by as much as two kilograms this year due to the prolonged warmer weather, according to the chamber. (MTI)
