Agricultural Chamber: plum yield will be about 62 thousand tons this year
Approximately 62,000 tons of plums are expected in Hungary this year, this is about half, third of the amount of the early 1990s – the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) told MTI on Tuesday.
In recent years, the plum yield was between 45 and 70 thousand tons.
Plum cultivation area in the country is currently 6600 hectares and plum is also a favorite domestic garden fruit as well. The most significant production areas are in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg (1530 hectares), Bács-Kiskun (1513 hectares) and Pest county (1067 hectares). Large production areas can be found in Heves, Nógrád and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties as well. (MTI)
