Due to the extreme weather this year, less than average onions and garlic crops are expected in Hungary and throughout the European Union.
The production area of the onion decreased slightly in the past period. Onions were grown in 2018 on about 1500 hectares. The plant is typically grown in Békés, Csongrád, Bács-Kiskun and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties and in Hajdú-Bihar, Pest and Győr-Moson-Sopron counties.
85 percent of the production area of garlic can be found in Csongrád County, it has risen slightly to about 1100 hectares. (MTI)
