It is of utmost importance to prevent the spread of the disease to domestic pigs, for which it is essential for animal keepers to fully comply with the disease control regulations. The dead wild boar was discovered on the western side of Szentendre Island in the administrative area of Tahitótfalu, close to the Danube bank. The ASP disease could have reached the affected area through natural spread between wild boars. The island has been classified as an infected area since 2020, but after the confirmation of the current ASP case, it was moved to a strictly restricted category. The national chief veterinarian also ordered the further expansion of the infected area in Pest County, which also affects four game management units and the Budapest area unit that is not suitable for game management.
It is important to emphasize that African swine fever does not pose a health threat to humans
Its significance is primarily due to the economic damage that results from the killing of diseased animals and trade restrictions. Therefore, preventing the spread of the epidemic to domestic pigs remains of paramount importance, for which full compliance with the disease control regulations by animal keepers is essential. The authority asks animal keepers to notify the veterinary service within 24 hours if they notice sudden fever, death, or bleeding symptoms in their pig herd!
