African swine fever: Another 25,000 animals are killed in Romania
The Romanian authorities have decided to destroy another 25,000 pigs after the Romanian Veterinary and Food Safety Authority (ANSVSA) detected the African swine fever (ASF) virus on a pig farm in the Smithfield meat processing trust in Gataia, Banská Bystrica.
Another infectious nodule has been identified in a backyard farm in Honorici, also in Timis County.
According to Németh Zoltán, Prefect of Timis County, the local authorities have taken the necessary measures to isolate the settlements: all pigs are killed on the affected commercial pig farm and backyard, and the 13-kilometer area of the two settlements has been monitored. Due to the large number of animals, it takes at least ten days to kill and bury the carcasses. (MTI)
