Advent inspections: one in ten businesses made a mistake
In December last year, auditors of the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) carried out around 6,000 special inspections at Advent fairs, markets, pine tree vendors, larger shopping malls and catering establishments. During the inspections, some irregularity was found in every tenth one, the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV) announced on Friday.
According to the office, the warning-type inspection strategy has worked, tax morale has improved compared to previous inspection campaigns, and compliance with the law has increased. The rate of tax violations decreased from the previous 20 percent to half in the Advent inspection campaign.
Tax inspectors conducted nationwide inspections between December 1 and 31 last year, and found violations in 10 percent of the 6,000 inspections. Based on the irregularities, the office imposed fines of more than 40 million forints. In addition to paying the fine, serious defaulters can also expect a subsequent tax audit.
During the Advent special inspections, the Tax Authority examined whether traders and service providers had issued invoices or receipts for their income, whether they had used the online cash register properly, whether businesses had registered their employees, and whether they had complied with the rules governing the sale of excise goods.
The auditors again uncovered most of the shortcomings while examining the issuance of receipts and the regularity of employment.
The Tax Authority notes that during its inspections Its main goal, in addition to protecting budget revenues, is to develop tax awareness and support law-abiding citizens, which is why it announced the special Advent inspection at the beginning of December and regularly publishes in the tax traffic pax which counties and areas businesses are most likely to encounter.
The inspectors protect honest taxpayers and ensure with their inspections that unfair competitive advantages cannot be gained through tax evasion or income concealment.
