Adygeland welcomes foreign tourists despite the sanctions
The Republic of Adige in the North Caucasus wants to boost the quality segment of Russian domestic tourism by 2030 and also increase the share of foreign visitors – despite the international environment of sanctions.
It takes a good three hours by car to the capital of Adyghe from Majkopba Minyeralnie Vodi airport – which is located in the neighboring Stavropol region. The nearest landing option would be in Krasnodar, but that terminal, along with several others in southern Russia, was closed to civilian air traffic when the war in Ukraine began.
The road leading to the “Valley of Apples”, Majkop, is bordered by cultivated fields and apple orchards reminiscent of rows of grapes, planted using the Italian method. In the cemeteries of the villages, the Russian tricolor is flying here and there, probably marking a soldier’s grave.
Marat Kumpilov, the head of the republic, told MTI that local people are taking part in the fighting in Ukraine, and the authorities of the region are supporting their families. The reconstruction of Henichensk District of Kherson County, which was partially annexed to Russia, was also brought under their supervision.
When the “special operation” began, many companies from “unfriendly countries” left the Russian market. This disrupted production chains, and suppliers had to be found. Thus, after the departure of Tetra Pak, they found Chinese and Turkish cardboard packaging, and steel sheet for cans in Belarus.
