The GVH’s latest knowledge-sharing event was about green claims
The Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH) has organized a conference for the seventh time within the framework of the Hungarian Compliance Academy (MCA). The latest event in the series of events that has been taking place for more than a year focused on the topic of green compliance. The participants of the event primarily addressed the issue of misleading green claims and their relationship with competition. The GVH continues to view the issue of green claims as a focus area.
The Hungarian Competition Authority launched the Hungarian Compliance Academy (MCA) in early 2024 with the aim of strengthening market competition, competitiveness and economic performance by promoting corporate compliance. The MCA organized its seventh event on May 27, 2025 at the GVH headquarters in Budapest. The central topic of the event was green compliance, which has been high on the GVH radar for years. The conference also featured presentations from renowned experts such as Csaba Kőrösi, former President of the UN General Assembly, Strategic Director of the Blue Planet Climate Protection Foundation, and Nikoletta Keszthelyi, Deputy State Secretary for Environmental Protection at the Ministry of Energy.
The conference was opened by László Bak, Deputy President of the GVH, who emphasized the importance of compliance: “In advertising communications supporting sustainability efforts, the prudent procedure of businesses plays an important role. Green claims must be supported by appropriate evidence and must be indicated precisely and specifically.”
During the event, the participating experts discussed the most important aspects of green compliance, the aspects of developing legally compliant green claims, the most common pitfalls, and the relationship of the topic to competition law. Experts from the Hungarian Competition Authority also presented the latest procedural experiences of the GVH.
The panel discussion organized within the framework of the event was attended by Andrea Basa, Head of the Consumer Protection Office of the Hungarian Competition Authority, Ildikó Fazekas, Director of the Self-Regulatory Advertising Board, Alexandra Köves, Ecological Economist, and Andrea Magdolna Nagy, Lawyer. The professional exchange of views was moderated by Nóra Váczi, Member of the Competition Council of the Hungarian Competition Authority.
