Tourism plays an important role for more and more countries, which contributes greatly to the economic development and job creation of the given nation. In recent years, several economic sectors have become involved and are becoming increasingly important players in tourism.

Gastronomy and, with it, the consumption of alcohol also play a role in the development of tourism, about which Zsolt Jordi Erdei, the founder of Premium Gin Hungary, gave a lecture at the newly opened Spíler Nika in Gozsdu Udvar, with a South American atmosphere.

It is no coincidence that Premium Gin held such an event in a location bustling with tourists, as tourism is another important topic for them. Although the topic of the presentation is the impact of tourism on the development of alcohol trends, this also appeared the other way around during the presentation, because spirits tourism is a dynamically growing branch these days.

Globally, alcohol consumption is an integral part of travel and tourism. Both practical experience and research show that people attribute their enjoyment to a wide range of activities, such as the destination’s history, local cuisine and local drinks. While some travelers view drinking as a side experience, for many it can be the main reason for travel, resulting in the growing popularity of “alcohol tourism”.

The positive effects of alcohol tourism have been confirmed by several studies. There is a close correlation between high tourist pressure and a greater presence of alcohol-related elements, especially in urban environments. Its economic benefits include direct, indirect and induced spending by tourists. Tourists spend directly on goods and services. And the local institutions/persons who directly receive tourism expenses carry out subsequent spending rounds, thus resulting in indirect spending. The induced effect results from the income earned by the locals in the form of wages, salaries, profits, rent and interest, which would not have been created without the related tourism.
