Wizz Air welcomes its 60 millionth Hungarian passenger
Wizz Air has reached 60 million passenger traffic in Hungary, and they have given a special welcome to their 60 millionth Hungarian passenger, who boarded the company’s first flight to Tallinn – the airline told MTI.
As a reminder, Wizz Air launched its first Budapest flight from Ferihegy to Athens at the end of June 2004. The Hungarian-founded airline is continuously developing its network.
The company’s Budapest base will have 18 Airbus A321neo aircraft from next May, connecting the Hungarian capital with almost 80 different destinations.
The announcement quotes Máté Ritter, Head of Flight Development at Budapest Airport, who highlighted that Wizz Air’s 8 new flights launched in 2025, the 5 new flights announced for next year, and the 18th aircraft at the base are also thanks to the airport’s commercial policy, which supports airlines that expand in the Budapest market.
Previous According to their information, between May and August, Wizz Air had more than 2.6 million passengers in Hungary, 13 percent more than in the same period last year. During the four months, the airline operated almost 12 thousand flights from Budapest and Debrecen. The airline provides more capacity than ever in the winter schedule period, offering 3.2 million seats to passengers, 8 percent more than a year ago, and launches flights to 59 destinations.
This year, it is expected to carry 72 million passengers worldwide, with the company’s growth center in Central and Eastern Europe. The company carried 63.4 million passengers in the 2025 financial year. In the first half of the year ending September 30, they carried 36.5 million passengers, up 9.8 percent from a year earlier.
According to the half-year report, their total revenue increased by 9 percent year-on-year to 3.342 billion euros. Their profit after tax rose by 2.6 percent to 323.5 million euros. Their operating profit increased by 25.8 percent to more than 432 million euros.
