The by-products of whisky production
One of the most important by-products of whisky production is the barrel in which the beverage is aged. Other distillates are also aged in whisky barrels and even a new American beer is fermented in them. Some use the scented wood of barrels for grilling – the aroma of the whisky can add something extra to the taste of roast meat. Others use the wood from barrels in interior design: it only costs GBP 120/m² to cover the floor of your flat with wood from whisky barrels. In the United States they burn the wood to add a special flavour to different spices; the product is called Bourbon Smoked and is sold in small barrel-shaped boxes.
