Wal-Mart Bharti opens first BestPrice store
The first BestPrice wholesale store, a joint venture between Wal-Mart Inc and Bharti Enterprises has opened in Amritsar, Punjab, India.
The new store will stock around 6,000 items, including fresh produce as well as non perishable food items, clothing and footwear, and will be open to commercial customers, such as small retail shops, caters and restaurants. Bharti also operates its own Easy Day neighbourhood stores that cater to household customers. Rajan Bharti Mittal, managing director of Bharti Enterprises said that the group expects to open up to 15 more stores in the next three years, the next being in Ludhiana. Around 90 per cent of produce is sourced locally and the group is already in contact with 8,000 suppliers and 30,000 retailers, he said. The new store in Amritsar store will provide 200 direct and 500 indirect jobs.
