Waberer’s becomes the majority owner of GYSEV Cargo Zrt.
Waberer’s International Plc. is acquiring a 70 percent stake in GYSEV CARGO Zrt., according to a notice published on the Budapest Stock Exchange (BSE) website on Monday.
The contract for the purchase of the company’s 62.5 percent stake was signed on Monday, and Waberer’s has also committed to a capital increase of almost 2 billion forints in order to develop the railway logistics infrastructure.
The transaction may be closed at the end of the first half of 2025, with the remaining ownership remaining in the hands of the current sole owner, GYSEV Zrt., they wrote.
According to the notice, GYSEV Cargo Zrt. is Hungary’s second largest railway transport company, which can also provide railway transport services in Austria through its Austrian subsidiary, Raaberbahn Cargo Gmbh.
The company operates the container terminal located on the territory of the GYSEV Intermodal Logistics Service Center in Sopron, and they will also operate the intermodal container terminal being built on the territory of the Debrecen-Macs Industrial Park railway station.
Waberer’s entered the Romanian market as a rail carrier almost a year ago, through the majority ownership acquired in the PSP Group, and its activities will now extend to 3 countries in the future. This will enable a greater proportion of goods that have previously left the country by road to be transferred to rail, reducing the environmental burden, they added.
According to the company statement issued on the occasion of the announcement, Waberer’s is continuously examining business development opportunities in rail logistics. As a result of the transaction, GYSEV Cargo can embark on a more dynamic development path, and GYSEV can start new investments, improving the quality of its services, they said.
