The amount of feed produced for waterfowl increased significantly in 2023
In Hungary, mixing plants produced 3.65 million tons of livestock feed mixture in 2023, almost the same as the previous year (+0.4 percent). Poultry feed accounted for 1.82 million tons, 49.8 percent of the compound feed produced. Pig fodder accounted for 1.262 million tons and cattle fodder for 461.3 thousand tons of production in 2023.
The amount of broiler feed produced decreased by 3.3 and turkey feed production by 6.6 percent in 2023. Egg feed increased by 5.1 percent, while the expansion in the waterfowl segment was even stronger due to the low base: the production of duck and goose feed exceeded the previous year’s production by 22.4 and 25.3 percent, respectively. The production of pig feed decreased by 4.5 percent, the amount of cattle feed increased by 14.5 percent compared to 2022.
47.1 percent of the poultry feed was produced by mixtures for broilers (857 thousand tons), 20.3 percent (369 thousand tons) was provided by egg feeds
Duck feed accounted for 12.5 percent of poultry feed, goose feed for 5.6 percent, and turkey and other poultry feed for 14.6 percent. Pig feed accounted for 34.6 percent and cattle feed for 12.6 percent of the total production in 2023. Feeds for other ruminants accounted for only 0.8 percent of the total production. The ratio of the combined quantity of fish feed and other (horse, rabbit, game, etc.) feed was 2.1 percent, i.e. 76 thousand tons.
