The new educational module on the water cycle developed by Coca-Cola Hungary’s #énjövőm platform
Continuing the series started with the module entitled Basics of the circular economy, the online course material presenting the water cycle has become available on Coca-Cola Hungary’s #énbéksöm platform. The new module guides users through the challenges of water management, presents the 17 objectives of sustainable development, addresses the problems of drinking water shortages and desertification, explores the concept of the water footprint and illustrates good practices with vivid international and domestic examples. Similar to the introductory material, this module was also compiled by the teachers of the Pannon University Nagykanizsa – Circular Economy University Center for the #énjövőm program.
One of the biggest challenges of today’s consumer societies is to sustainably manage the water resources available to us. Although 2/3 of our planet is covered by water, only 2.5% of this is fresh water and only 30% of this is suitable for direct use with a relatively small investment. In addition, the distribution of this is not even, showing huge differences from area to area. Desertification is a worldwide problem with serious consequences for biodiversity, eco-security, poverty eradication, socio-economic stability and sustainable development, and is also linked to water scarcity.
Sustainable water management is a global problem, the solution of which requires a change of attitude at all levels of society: from individual, everyday use to the level of large-scale industry and agriculture. The study material just published helps you understand the challenges of water management, the processes of water use and water purification, confronts you with some surprising data, and also gives suggestions for reducing your individual water footprint.
