Wiener is a favourite with large families
Wiener is a very popular product category: nine out of ten households purchased this type of meat product in the 12-month period leading up to June 2012. It is large families where wiener is the most popular if we compare the money spent on wiener with the average sum spent on food products in total. Discount stores sold the most wieners in terms of volume and hypermarkets were the leaders of value sales. Discounters managed to increase their market share as they sell wiener 15 percent cheaper than the national average. It is noteworthy that the higher a household’s income is, the more it accepts private label wiener products.
