Péter Szijjártó spoke out in defense of guest workers
Illegal migrants cannot be confused with those who travel to work in another country under orderly conditions, and illegal border crossing is not a human right, but a crime, said Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó on Thursday in Manila.
According to the ministry’s announcement, the head of the ministry held talks with Philippine Foreign Minister Enrique Manalo, and then explained: regarding illegal migration, Hungary and the Philippines agree that a country has the right to decide who it allows into its territory and with whom it wants to live. They also agree that illegal border crossing is not a human right, but a crime, he added.
He emphasized: illegal migrants cannot be confused with those who travel to work in another country under orderly conditions, respecting the agreements between the two countries. Hungary values the more than ten thousand Filipinos who work in the country, said Péter Szijjártó.
He said: the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and the Philippines provides an excellent opportunity for political discussions. At the same time, the consultation is also relevant because Hungary will take over the presidency of the European Union on July 1st, under very challenging circumstances, as the world has faced a huge security and economic crisis in the past – he pointed out.
