More than expected wheat yield for next year
The International Grain Council (IGC) has changed its forecast for world wheat yield, from 654 million tonnes to 662 million for the 2009 – 2010 years.
According to the organization’s explanation the yields are larger than expected in the European Union, in Ukraine, in the United States and in China. However, the wheat yield is expected to be still below the 2008-2009's 687 million tonnes.
The IGC also revised upwards the forecast of maize production: In 2009-2010 787 million tonnes are expected instead of the previously estimated 781 million – reports Origo.
