Bees collected less honey than expected in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county
Due to the bad weather, bees collected much less honey than expected in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county – told the regional adviser of the Hungarian National Beekeeping Association (OMME) to MTI on Tuesday.
Kovács Csaba told that the average acacia honey production per bee family will be around only 3-8 kilograms, compared to the estmated 15-20 kilograms, and last year’s 25-30 kilograms.
“The situation is very disappointing, even the old beekeepers cannot even recall the flowering of acacia so bad” – he said. The consultant added that the minus 20 to 25 degrees of February, and the minus 7 to 11 degrees frost on April 10 caused the largest damages in the acacia forests of the Nyírség and the Bereg region. Also the flowering of acacia started early, on May 7, when the bee families were not enough developed. (MTI)
