The producer price of the slaughter heifer decreased by 37 percent
According to the AKI’s slaughter statistics data, cattle slaughter in January-April 2024, expressed in live weight, was 11.5 percent below the January-April 2023 quantity. Cows, which account for two-thirds of all slaughters, were 14.3 percent less, heifers 17.2 percent less, and bulls 2.2 percent more than a year earlier.

Based on KSH data, Hungary’s live cattle exports increased by 13.7 percent (17.9 thousand tons), and their value increased by 9.5 percent in January-March 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. The main partners were Kosovo, Croatia, Austria, Turkey and Albania. Hungary’s live cattle imports increased by 17.2 percent to 5.2 thousand tons and their value by 18.4 percent. More than two-thirds of the live cattle came from Italy, Denmark and Germany. The volume of beef exports decreased by 16.4 percent (2 thousand tons) and the value by 19.8 percent.

According to the AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of young bulls was 734 forints/kilogram of split hot weight in May 2024, which decreased by 6.8 percent compared to the average price of the same month in 2023. The price of the slaughter heifer decreased by 37 percent and the price of the slaughter cow by 2.6 percent during the period under review. According to KSH data, the consumer price of beef steak increased by almost 1 percent (HUF 4,660/kilogram) in May 2024 compared to a year earlier.
