The producer price of slaughter cows increased by 30 percent

According to the AKI slaughter statistics, in January-February 2026, cattle slaughter increased by 2.3 percent compared to January-February 2025. The slaughter of cows, which account for more than half of all slaughter, increased by 4.7 percent, and that of heifers by 7.5 percent.

According to the Central Statistical Office (KSH), Hungary’s live cattle exports decreased by 8.3 percent (12.6 thousand tons), while their value increased by 13.1 percent in January-February 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Hungary’s live cattle imports decreased by 36 percent (1.4 thousand tons), and their value by 32.7 percent during the same period. The volume of beef exports increased by 74.7 percent (8.4 thousand tons). The volume of beef imports decreased by 3.9 percent (2 thousand tons), while its value increased by 22.3 percent in the observed period. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of a young bull was 2,280 forints/kilogram of carcass warm weight in January-March 2026, an increase of 23.6 percent compared to a year earlier. The price of a slaughter heifer was 28 percent higher and that of a slaughter cow was 30 percent higher in the observed period.
