The producer price of slaughter cows is 24 percent lower than a year ago
According to AKI’s slaughter statistics data, cattle slaughter in January-March 2024, expressed in live weight, decreased by 14.8 percent compared to the amount in January-March 2023. Cows, which account for almost two-thirds of all slaughters, were slaughtered by around 17.6 percent, heifers by 21.4 percent, and bulls by 1.1 percent.
Based on data from the KSH, Hungary’s live cattle exports increased by 14.3 percent (11.3 thousand tons), and their value increased by 7.4 percent in January-February 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. The main partners were Kosovo, Croatia, Austria, Turkey and Albania. Hungary’s live cattle imports increased by 48.7 percent to 3.8 thousand tons and their value by 51.4 percent.
More than two-thirds of the live cattle came from Italy, Denmark and Germany
The volume of beef exports decreased by 19.2 percent (1.4 thousand tons) and its value by almost 23 percent. The volume of beef imports increased by 20.6 percent (2.2 thousand tons) and the value by 10.8 percent in the observed period. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of young bulls was HUF 774/kilogram of split hot weight in April 2024, which decreased by 7 percent compared to the average price of the same month in 2023. The price of the slaughter heifer decreased by 11 percent and the price of the slaughter cow by 24 percent during the period under review.
