Producer prices for broiler chickens and broiler turkeys are also lower than last year
Based on the AKI’s slaughter statistics data, 487.3 thousand tons (live weight) of poultry were slaughtered in Hungary in the first eight months of 2024, 10.9 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. Of this, slaughter chickens accounted for 350.5 thousand tons (+6.4 percent), and slaughter turkeys for 45.4 thousand tons (+0.4 percent).

According to data from the European Commission, the EU average price of whole chicken in the first forty-one weeks of 2024 was 269 euros/100 kilograms, which did not change significantly compared to the previous year. According to AKI PÁIR data, the live weight producer price of slaughter chickens in Hungary decreased by 16.1 percent to HUF 415.3/kg, and that of slaughter turkeys by 13.4 percent to HUF 590.3/kg in the first forty-one weeks of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. The processing selling price of chicken breast fillet is HUF 1,752.6/kilogram (-10.2 percent), bone-in chicken breast is HUF 1,163.6/kilogram (-10.5 percent), and the price of chicken breast (total) is HUF 1,725.1/kilogram (- 10.3 percent) in the observed period.
