UPS Healthcare opens a regional logistics center in Germany
UPS Healthcare, which also has significant operations in Hungary, today opened its first healthcare logistics facility in Germany in Giessen. The warehouse area of 27,200 m2, compliant with Good Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Pharmaceutical Wholesale Practice (GDP), allows for the placement of more than 30,000 pallets. Various health products can be stored at temperatures between 2 and 8 and 15 and 25°C, or even at -20°C.
“With the help of our warehouse, which we opened today, we have created a truly pan-European cold chain network that provides a range of quality, specialized storage and handling services from end to end”
– said John Bolla, president of UPS Healthcare’s global logistics and distribution business.
“By opening our first facility in Germany, we can provide greater visibility and control to ensure that our customers’ critical products reach patients at the right time and temperature.”
The building was designed with the utmost consideration of sustainability principles: the solar panel system built on the facility can produce more than 850,000 kWh of electricity per year – more than it uses.
