Tourism is preparing for the autumn season: the TKI index decreased in August
The National Association of Tourist and Hospitality Employers (VIMOSZ) jointly with the Hungarian Tourism Association and GKI Gazdaságkutató Zrt. measures the expected development of the business cycle in tourism on a monthly basis and publishes the Tourism Business Cycle Index.
The TKI index stood at -13 points in August 2022 (interpreted on a scale between -100 and +100), which means that the players of the sector perceive their situation as slightly deteriorating. Compared to July, the value of the index decreased by 10 points. The decrease mainly affected accommodation services.
The tourism performance expectations index (measures the number of guest nights in the accommodation service, the number of guests in the hospitality sector, the number of guests/customers/bookings depending on the activity in the other tourism sector) rose to +7 points in August 2022, thus exceeding the GKI EU as in the previous months the index of the service sector measured in the business cycle survey (-6 points) as well as the national economic average (-2 points). Among the sub-sectors of tourism, the index in the accommodation service and other tourism sectors is above average (+11 and +16 points respectively), while in the hospitality industry it is lower and negative (-8 points).
