Egg prices expected to rise further
Trends in the global market of meat and poultry are monitored by the Agricultural Business Research Institute (AKI). Egg prices began to rise rapidly in the EU in March, reaching the March 2008 level by the middle of that month. New EU member states are also required to adapt more expensive farming methods by 2011. Livestock is reduced and prices rise as a result of this transition, which has already lead to a 20 percent increase in the price of eggs produced in Austria. According to AKI PÁIR data, domestic sales of eggs have dropped by 4 percent, while the volume of export has increased by 300 percent. Around Easter, demand for lamb in the EU has increased, but not as substantially as expected.
