The irrigation of the Trans-Tisza lands is also ensured by the renewal of the Eastern Main Canal
More than three billion HUF of EU funding has been used to renovate the tools of the Eastern Main Canal in the last three years, which will allow irrigation of 200,000 hectares of land, solving the water supply – was said at the handover ceremony in Bakonszeg.
Láng István, Director General of the National Directorate General for Water, said that the nearly 100 kilometers stretch of the Eastern Main Canal, which had been opened for about 60 years, also affects Tiszavasvári, Hajdúnánás, Hajdúböszörmény, Balmazújváros, Hajdúszoboszló and Bakonszeg. The Tisza River is one of the driest parts of the country, therefore it is very important to build and maintain a proper water management system. (MTI)
