Day of the Sea Festival in Tallinn
Open the sea for the Estonians – is the main slogan of Tallinn, European Capital of Culture 2011 (ECC) program, which deploys about seven thousand programs, including the Day of the Sea Festival that lasts from Friday till Sunday and that will be the largest free event of the Capital of Culture event.
Anu Kippasto, the director of the Hungarian Estonian Institute explained to MTI, that the shores of Tallinn at the Czarist times were excluded from the population, although the Estonians have always been a maritime nation. The Tsar's fortress prison, the Soviet naval base and secret storages prevented the inhabitants of Tallinn to walk on the beach. Now the quays were renewed the warehouses were developed into cultural scenes, the iron foundry now houses a concert hall – reports MTI.
